Media Action Center is a nonprofit group of concerned residents throughout the United States led by former Emmy-winning broadcaster turned media democracy advocate Sue Wilson. We successfully influence policy at the Federal Communications Commission and at local US TV and Radio stations to ensure We the People are truly served by Our publicly owned airwaves. MAC joined Frequency Forward in filing a Motion to Intervene in ABC/Disney v FCC to ensure viewers, who own the Public Airwaves and whose rights are paramount, has a seat at the table. MAC also joined a current Petition to Deny the broadcast licenses of DISNEY ABC at the FCC. In 2017, MAC forced Entercom to give up its $13.5 million license to KDND for killing a woman in a radio water drinking stunt. That same year MAC empowered local listeners across the country to take Alex Jones off their local radio dials. In 2000, we informed the Supreme Court in FCC v Prometheus Radio that multiple local TV stations with one corporate owner merely duplicate news stories on all its stations; a similar methodology is currently being used in legal cases trying to prevent the Nexstar/TEGNA merger.

Judge Alikahn Delivers Partial Victory for Media Action Center/Frequency Forward in Disney/ABC v FCC Case

 October 6, 2026

Yesterday, Judge Loren L. Alikhan delivered Media Action Center and Frequency Forward a partial victory in its effort to maintain a public presence in the lawsuit between ABC and its federal regulator the Federal Communications Commission over First Amendment rights.

MAC and FF were trying to intervene in the case so the Public, which owns the TV airwaves, would have a seat at the table should the parties make a backroom "Consent Decree" deal that harms the Public Interest (say should ABC give up the Jimmy Kimmel show to curry favor with the FCC to protect its licensing.)

The judge disallowed MAC/ FF's motion to intervene at this stage. However, she provided a remedy for MAC and FF to proceed in the future: should ABC and the FCC reach a deal which interferes with MAC/FF's Public Interest objectives, she would reconsider our motion to intervene in this proceeding.

Says MAC Director Sue Wilson, "This is truly a win for the public. If Disney/ABC in resolving its litigation with the FCC makes a backroom deal which interferes with the public’s interest in this matter, we are laying in wait to hang our own sword of Damocles over their heads."
